About
Dr. Skouras will supervise a Ph.D. student of the Lab. of Computational Science for Materials and Processes FORTH/ICE-HT (Director V. Burganos) for the Task 3.3 (theoretical simulation). He holds a Diploma and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering (University of Patras). He has a long-time collaboration with most of the members of the team. His relative research activity involves transport phenomena and reaction processes with emphasis on flow of liquids, gases, and suspensions through heterogeneous media. He has long experience in software improvement and parallelization, and specialized expertise on theoretical investigation of crystal precipitation from supersaturated solutions on different substrates in porous materials, including i) modelling of the flow and precipitation of materials at the single-pore/unit cell level and at the pore network level which simulates the structure of the porous medium, ii) prediction of the evolution of the geometry, iii) the mechanical and the hydraulic properties of different porous media and materials in the presence of supersaturated solutions flowing through, and evaluation of the controlled consolidation of loose, or granular materials or soils due to the in-situ precipitation and crystal growth of calcium carbonate salts.
